Royal Navy Wardroom Electric Lamp
We purchased this fine lamp back in 2001 and it has been a part of our own collection and in daily use these last 14 years. A change of interior design scheme in our home now dictates, with some regret, it is time to find a new custodian for it. This pattern is in our view one of the most decorative and imposing of Royal Navy lamps and these are often seen mounted down the middle of the wardroom table and wired in series. We have a photograph here of the double stem version of this lamp being used in the wardroom of the Royal Yacht Britannia. The lamp is silver plated over solid brass ; the plate is in good original condition with very minor age wear. The stem is in the form of a Corinthian column and is surmounted by a Royal Navy fouled anchor on either side. The BC lamp holder and switchgear was replaced when we purchased the lamp and it works perfectly, although as with all antique lighting it would be worth having this checked over by a qualified electrician before using. The braided wiring was also replaced at the same time so again meets modern safety requirements whilst maintaining the vintage look. A fused 13 amp plug is fitted to comply with UK requirements but it may need to be rewired for overseas use. These lamps are not gimballed but to avoid them moving on a rolling ship the lamp is extremely heavy, with pig iron mounted in the base and weighs in at 2.8 kilos so we recommend you check delivery costs with us before ordering. The base is covered in original baize to avoid scratching the wardroom table. These lamps are getting increasingly hard to find now so grab a chance to own this fine example! The lamp shade is the one used by us and is included in our picture to illustrate how the lamp looks in use. Whilst this is not included in the sale if the new owner would like to take it at no extra charge just ask! Height to top of lamp holder 11.5" (29 cm).Diameter of base 6" (15 cm)
